In honor of the release of The BFG on Friday, July 1st, I thought I’d put together a list of all the Roald Dahl books that have been turned into movies. There were a few that surprised me on this one! This would be a great reading list for a kid looking for some heartwarming reads!
This list is in alphabetical order:
The BFG (1989 and 2016) : The 1989 version of this movie is animated and the picture on the front looks much like the image on the 2016 version of the film, which is live action with amazing CGI effects.
Danny, the Champion of the World (1989) : This is a live action movie and was a made-for-TV movie.
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) : This animated movie has some big names like George Clooney and Meryl Streep involved.
James and the Giant Peach (1996) : This is a fun animated movie with a great story about finding your family and home no matter the situation.
Matilda (1996) : I grew up watching this movie and can’t wait for my kids to read and see this one as well.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) : I have a big preference to the original 1971 version of this movie but the 2005 Tim Burton version has some amazing effects and imagery as well.
